
Meta is Using Public Data for AI Training Starting May 27

- Likes and shares
- Public profile info
Private messages, data from users under 18, and non-public posts are excluded.
How to Opt Out via Instagram
- Go to your profile in the Instagram app.
- Tap the three lines (top-right) > Settings and Activity.
- Navigate to: More Info and Help > Information > Privacy Policy.
- Click Object (“Oponerte”).
- Fill out the form with your country and email. Optionally explain your reason.
- Submit and confirm via the email you receive.
How to Opt Out via Facebook
- Go to Settings and Privacy > Privacy Center.
- Select Generative AI at Meta.
- Scroll and click Right to Object.
- Complete the form with your email and optional reason.
- Submit and confirm via the verification email.
What About WhatsApp?
Meta AI on WhatsApp appears as a floating blue icon or AI chat assistant. You cannot fully opt out, but you can limit exposure:
- Mute Meta AI chat: Tap the chat > Mute > Always.
- Delete the conversation.
- Reset AI: Type
/reset-ai
in the Meta AI chat to erase the history.
Note: Meta states that WhatsApp messages are not used for AI training.
Deadline to Act
If you do not submit the form by May 27, 2025, Meta will begin processing your past public data for AI training. After that, opposition will only apply to future data.
