Police responded to several reports of loud bangs near Vaksala Square in central Uppsala on Monday evening. Witnesses described the sounds as resembling gunfire.
Upon arrival, officers found multiple individuals with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. A large area has been cordoned off, and police have launched an extensive investigation at the scene.
At 19:25, authorities confirmed that three people had died. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released, and next of kin have not been notified.
By 19:55, the police declared the situation a “special event,” a protocol that allows for additional resources and coordination. The incident is being investigated as a murder case.
